Sub-Team Roles
Body and Chassis
Technical subteam
Our body and chassis team design the aerodynamics and space frame chassis of SEM-03. Body and Chassis will also be working at testing a variety of carbon fibre layup techniques to find the best way to manufacture SEM-03
Main parts you will be working on:
Aerodynamics of the car body
Working with carbon fibre to manufacture the body using either wet lay up or pre-preg
Creating a safe steel chassis frame and roll cage
Looking into driver environment, such as the seat and safety belt
Joining each piece of the carbon fibre body
Installing windows in the body
Designing space for the mirrors and lights to go on the car body
Adhering sponsor logos to the finished body
Skills you may be using/learning:
Fusion 360 CAD
Fusion 360/Ansys FEA
Ansys CFD
Working with carbon fibre
CNC machining for the moulds
Various joining techniques
Steering and Brakes
Technical subteam
Our steering ad brakes team design the steering, brakes and suspension of the car. This year the team will design our first-ever suspension for SEM-03 using suspension analysis and ‘Adam’s car’. while also developing our steering system to improve the ease of manufacture.
Main parts you will be working on:
Designing the steering wheel
Manufacturing the accelerator and brake pedals and working with forged carbon fibre
Designing and manufacturing the 2 types of suspension within the car
Manufacturing the steering system
3D printing prototyping parts
Working with a variety of metal manufacturing and joining techniques
Researching how the different types of wheels and tires will integrate into the suspension system
Skills you may be using/learning:
Forged carbon fibre
Water jet cutting (and other metal manufacturing techniques)
Knowledge of a variety of manufacturing and assembly techniques
3D printing
Fusion 360 CAD

Powertrain
Technical subteam
Our powertrain team will be working with Control and Electronics on the battery to incorporate it into the car. They will also be working on the power electronics and drive train design for SEM-03.
Main parts you will be working on:
Working with high-voltage power electronics
Battery design and manufacture
Working with the battery charging system
Designing a battery cooling system
Working with the motor and drivetrain design, and integration into a car
Manufacturing the structural mounting system and working with forged carbon fibre
